Victory Thinking

We have a lot on our minds.

I don’t know about you, but my mind is constantly racing trying to keep up with everything. Work, school, family, relationships, finances, health issues, cleaning, errands–to name just a few. Busyness. Non-stop juggling for most of us. Calendars, lists, appointments to keep, emails to send, calls to make, things to follow up on, birthdays and other occasions to remember. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

It’s easy to get weighed down by the sheer volume of things we’re dealing with. And then something unexpected happens. Something disappointing or hurtful or even tragic. Suddenly we find ourselves struggling to stay above water. It’s impossible to focus on anything else.

We hear people talk about “abundant life” or “true joy” or how great their life is. Sometimes I’ve thought, “I’m glad their life is fabulous, but mine’s not. What about me?” Don’t get me wrong. I’m really happy for people who are really happy. But when I’m stuck in the mud pits of life and I don’t have someone pulling me out, how can I overcome my real life?

Recently I heard the answer. So simple it seems almost too simple. But it makes sense.

Victory thinking.

Thinking victoriously. Putting an end to negative thoughts that cripple us.  Fixing our mind on where we want to be, not the hardship of where we are. Victory Thinking is a critical step to rising above real life. Why? Because rising above real life includes overcoming our circumstances. We’re no longer bound by the negative impact of where we are. We’re claiming victory over what has held us down or held us back. We’re breaking free and soaring to new heights. And it starts with us believing that we can have that victory.

But here’s something else that’s true about Victory Thinking: the ability to be victorious doesn’t come from our own strength. The ability to endure everyday turmoil of life, the ability to persevere in the darkest hours of our life, and the ability to rise above the reality of our circumstances and stand in victory–the ability comes from above. It comes from God.

Most of us know deep down inside that we can’t do life on our own. But a lot of us don’t like to admit it. Then the day comes when we’re at the end of our rope and we realize we need divine intervention. Even if we’re not sure we believe in God, we’re ready to try just about anything. When we decide we’re ready for victory in our life, it’s time to begin Victory Thinking.

Victory or defeat. There are only two options. Choose victory. Start thinking victoriously.

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

May I pray?

Jesus, I’m praying for victory–in our thinking and in our lives. I know that You alone are mighty to save, so I ask that You help us to begin thinking victoriously. May our thoughts be released from the grip of hardships and circumstances. May we learn to rejoice in small daily victories. May we grow to love You more as we open up to Your love for us. Please help us keep our eyes and thoughts fixed on You. Please help us to believe and embrace the truth that we can rise above everything when we do it in Your strength. Amen.
