This kind of love story is about being in the trenches of real life. Fighting our battles side by side. And knowing that no matter how hard it gets, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be. Because we’re in it together.
Does love like this really exist? Yes. And here’s one of those love stories…
Chris Medina was a contestant on American Idol in 2010. In 2009, just two months before his wedding, his fiancé was in a terrible car accident. She suffered traumatic brain injuries that took many of her faculties, including her ability to walk by herself. She also suffered severe fractures to her skull and face. Chris lived out his promise to stay by her side, becoming one of her main caretakers. And a year later to the day, he tried out for American Idol at his fiancé’s insistence. She was there with him, in her wheelchair.

Heavenly Father, it’s not easy when we’re in the trenches of real life. We long for someone to truly love us and stay with us through it all. For those who are struggling on their own, I pray that Your love would fill them to overflowing today. Please shield them from harm. Please give them a ray of hope. And grant them the courage to reach out to someone so they don’t have to go through it alone. For those committed to love in the trenches, I pray a special blessing upon them today. May You strengthen their love and devotion, and allow joy to be their hallmark. Amen.
